Rennes routs Dijon 5-1 in French league

PARIS (AP)—Rennes opened its French league campaign with a 5-1 victory at newly promoted Dijon on Sunday.
Victor Hugo Montano put Rennes ahead in the 34th minute. Two minutes later, the Colombian striker slipped a through ball to Julien Feret, who doubled the lead.
Dijon forward Brice Jovial pulled one goal back on the stroke of halftime.
Rennes winger Razak Boukari made it 3-1 in the 50th by outpacing the Dijon defense and beating goalkeeper Jean-Daniel Padovani.
Senegal defender Kader Mangane added a fourth goal for Rennes with a header in the 75th, before substitute Alexander Tettey sealed the win in the 85th.
Dijon had two goals disallowed in the first 20 minutes, both for offside.
Rennes midfielder Feret, signed from Nancy in the offseason, missed a penalty in the 31st, firing over the bar after Steven Paulle had tripped Montano.
Dijon forward Gregory Thil also missed a spot kick in the 53rd, hitting the post after Jovial had been fouled inside the area.
Rennes was neck-and-neck with Lille in the title race last season before fading in the last couple of months to finish in sixth place.
Bordeaux played Saint-Etienne later on Sunday.
On Saturday, it was: Ajaccio 0, Toulouse 2; Brest 2, Evian 2; Caen 1, Valenciennes 0; Marseille 2, Sochaux 2; Montpellier 3, Auxerre 1; Nancy 1, Lille 1; Nice 1, Lyon 3 and Paris Saint-Germain 0, Lorient 1.
