Platini to discuss match-fixing with Greek PM

ATHENS (AFP) - European football chief Michel Platini will meet Greek Prime Minister George Papandreou here next Tuesday to discuss progress on the ongoing investigation into match-fixing in Greek football.

The Greek Ministry of Culture and Tourism, which is responsible for professional sports in the country, announced the upcoming meeting on Thursday.

UEFA president Platini will be briefed by Culture and Tourism Minister Pavlos Geroulanos on the investigation and then hold talks with Papandreou.

In all 68 people have been named by Athens First Instance Court Prosecutor Eleni Raikou as being involved in the latest match-fixing scandal to rock Greek football.

The group includes club owners, players, referees and other officials.

Among the charges are involvement in criminal activities, fraud, extortion, money laundering, illegal gambling and illegal possession of firearms.

Greek judicial authorities launched their investigation after a list of 41 suspicious matches were submitted to the country's football federation by UEFA.
