ROBERTO MARTINEZ admits Wigan face a ‘month of death’ as they look to avoid another Premier League relegation battle.
The Latics boss believes his side can push for the top half if they show the form of the final month of last season.
But he thinks December, when they face Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United, may prove an unhappy time.
“December is becoming a little bit of a month of death,” Martinez admitted.
“It’s such a combination of fantastic teams that we’ll have to face. But we’re really excited about the way we finished the season and we can’t wait for the opening games.”
Wigan kick off their away campaign at Swansea which will see Martinez return to South Wales, where he laid the foundations for their elevation to the top flight.
He added: “I’ve got strong links with the club.
“I was one of the first foreigners to be captain and we moved to the new stadium. They were big moments and I am looking forward to it.
