SAO PAULO (AP)—Former Brazil striker Renato Gaucho has resigned as Gremio coach after the team’s fourth match without a win in the Brazilian league.
Renato Gaucho made the announcement on Thursday, a day after a disappointing 2-2 home draw with second-to-last Avai.
Gremio is 12th in the 20-team standings and can drop even lower after Thursday’s matches.
Gremio had victories in two of its first three matches but hasn’t been able to win since.
Renato Gaucho took over Gremio last August, helping the team earn a spot in this year’s Copa Libertadores, where it was eliminated in the round of 16.
The former striker helped Gremio win the club world title in 1983.
