FIFA President Sepp Blatter says Germany’s hosting of the World Cup will be a “milestone” in the development of women’s soccer.

Blatter said Saturday the 16-team tournament would be “good for women’s football all over the world.”
He was speaking at the opening press conference where questions were not permitted on the recent corruption allegations to dog FIFA.

Steffi Jones, president of the organizing committee, said: “We’re here to talk about the women’s World Cup.”

Jones asked fans to refrain from whistling Blatter when the tournament kicks off on Sunday.

The former Germany player said: “I hope we’re good hosts … and that we show that tomorrow.”
