PARIS (AFP) - The five Mexican footballers suspended from the CONCACAF Gold Cup on suspicion of doping have asked for their B samples to be re-analysed, the Mexican Football Federation announced on Wednesday.
Goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa, defenders Francisco Javier Rodriguez and Edgar Duenas, and midfielders Antonio 'Sinha' Naelson and Christian Bermudez tested positive for the banned substance clenbuterol after giving samples at a pre-tournament training camp on May 21.
The quintet were flown to the UCLA anti-doping laboratory in Los Angeles last week and the Mexican federation revealed on Wednesday that further tests had proved negative.
The federation claims the players may have accidentally ingested clenbuterol, a muscle-building drug, with their food.
Mexico are due to face Guatemala in the Gold Cup quarter-finals in East Rutherford, New Jersey on June 18 after romping through the group phase, winning all three games and scoring 14 goals for the loss of just one.
