Its the Hollywood of soccer legends. A walk of fame, if you will.
On October 10, another soccer legend will add his feet to the Champions Promenade in Monaco.
The Golden Foot is a lifetime achievement award given to soccer players over the age of 29. Criteria include both individual and team play, as well as popularity with their peers and with fans. A player may only win the Golden Foot once, as similar to Hollywood’s walk of fame, winners have gold molds of their feet placed on the Champions Promenade.
The candidates are David Beckham (England), Gianluigi Buffon (Italy), Iker Casillas (Spain), Didier Drogba (Ivory Coast), Samuel Eto’o (Cameroon), Ryan Giggs (Wales), Carles Puyol (Spain), Raúl González Blanco (Spain), Xavi Hernández (Spain), and Javier Zanetti (Argentina).
It is Beckham’s seventh straight year to be nominated for the award, having not been chosen the previous six times.
