Schalke have revealed that it has agreed a fee with German rivals Bayern Munich for Manuel Neuer after months of speculation, but has not yet accepted the bid.
The club captain has stated his desire to leave the Gelschenkirchen side, with the Bavarian club his chosen destination, but his move may yet be stalled.
"We had really good talks with Bayern and also have achieved economic unity. But we have not yet decided to accept the offer," club managing director Peter Peters told Bild.
The move has looked inevitable as the German media have reported interest in a deal from both sides, but the Champions League semifinalists appear keen to find a new number one before letting the Germany international move to the Allianz Arena.
Possible contenders for his jersey are reportedly Bundesliga stoppers Kevin Trapp, Ron-Robert Zieler, Ralf Fahrmann and Ajax's Maarten Stekelenburg.
However, sporting director Horst Heldt has stated that the club do not want to spend more than €3 million, which would rule out all of the above possibilities except for Eintracht Frankfurt's Fahrmann, who will look to move back to the top flight after his club's relegation.
