BOLTON, England (AP)—Sweden striker Johan Elmander has been released by Bolton after his contract expired at the Premier League club.
Elmander, who joined Bolton from French club Toulouse for a club-record fee of 10 million pounds (then $19.6 million) in 2008, scored 22 goals in all competitions for the northwest club.
Turkish side Galatasaray announced last week it had reached a deal in principle with the 29-year-old striker.
Elmander said Wednesday that “I have had three good years at Bolton, especially the last 18 months, but the time is right for a new challenge.”
