Cesena eased their relegation fears with a hard-fought 2-0 victory at mid-table Cagliari.
Luis Jimenez put the visitors ahead in the 53rd minute before substitute Dominique Malonga doubled the advantage six minutes from time.
The win in Sardinia lifted Cesena to 16th place, four points clear of third-from-bottom Sampdoria, who have still to visit Genoa.
Cesena host Brescia next weekend before meeting Genoa at the Luigi Ferraris stadium in their final game on May 22.
Cagliari, who have won just one of their last nine encounters, are four points above of Cesena.
Cesena, who gained promotion to Serie A last summer, went into the match on the back of a 2-1 defeat to Inter Milan but enjoyed a strong start.
Jimenez was a danger early on and had the chance to put Cesena in front.
In the 13th minute, Emanuele Giaccherini's cross found him inside the area and his eight-yard shot went inches wide of the far post.
Cagliari could have gone in front before the half-hour mark.
Robert Acquafresca got his head on Alessandro Agostini's cross and his effort went just over the bar.
The hosts almost broke the deadlock again before half-time.
Andrea Lazzari fed Simone Missiroli inside the area and his right-footed shot was kept out by Cesena goalkeeper Francesco Antonioli.
Cesena showed more determination after the restart and took a deserved lead before the hour.
Igor Budan served Jiminez inside the area and the Chilean struck past Cagliari goalkeeper Michael Agazzi.
Cesena dominated possession and extended their lead in the 83rd minute.
A fast break from Cesena saw Giaccherini serve Malonga inside the six-yard box and he made no mistake from close range.
Cesena held on for the victory without major scares.
