AC Milan midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng has revealed that he “was a step away” from signing for Lazio last summer.

The Ghana international was recruited by Genoa on a permanent contract from Portsmouth at the start of the 2010-11 campaign, but was immediately farmed out on a season-long loan at the Italian giants.

Boateng, who has been hugely impressive at San Siro and is set to be signed by Milan on a permanent deal, has now disclosed that he had the chance to play his trade in Rome.

“I was a step away from joining Lazio,” he told the Messaggero newspaper. “I met with president Claudio Lotito, but I turned him down. Seeing how my season has gone, I have no regret.”

Boateng, 24, has scored three goals and provided three assists in 24 Serie A appearances for Milan so far this season.
