Manchester United's Chicharito: The team matters more than who scores

Javier Hernandez was responsible for yet another Manchester United winning goal on Saturday as the striker’s header claimed all three points in the clash against Everton in the 83rd minute, but the Mexican insists that it is the team performance which is most important to him.

With the departures of Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez over recent seasons, many believed that Sir Alex Ferguson’s side would lack the cutting edge in attack to keep pace in the Premier League.

However, United’s longest serving manager has brushed off all doubts and is now preparing for a winning end to the season with the possibility of landing both the Premier League and the coveted Champions League.

For Hernandez teamwork is the reason behind that success and for him scoring 19 goals is second in importance to the team’s performance.

"We needed those three points, it didn't matter who scored," he told reporters

"We always think about the team. That is the most important thing. We don't need to be selfish and think only about scoring ourselves.

"This season has been a dream come true for me. I have scored 19 goals and we have almost won the Premier League. It is an unbelievable thing.

"But if I had the chance to swap my 19 goals for a lot of championships for this team, I would do it.

The Mexican admitted that the match against Everton was a nervy one made more difficult by the recent hot temperatures but believed it was a pivotal moment.

"It was nervous on the field. We wanted to get the goal as soon as possible and knew we needed to keep working.

"It was hot and sunny and it was hard, but the history of Manchester United is about days like this."
