Manchester United 's charge hits a wall
Stand-in stopper Tim Krul keeps Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney at bay

SIR Alex Ferguson was left fuming at another refereeing decision after Manchester United blew the chance to move nine points clear when they were held at Newcastle.

Manchester United had a huge shout for a penalty in injury-time when Javier Hernandez fell over Danny Simpson’s leg. Instead, the referee booked the Mexican for diving. The decision annoyed Ferguson, who said: “There was definite contact. The referee had an excellent game but let himself down by booking Hernandez. Not to give a penalty is fine but to book him is an insult.” Ryan Giggs missed the chance of the match when he shot wide from 10 yards with the goal at his mercy.

Newcastle keeper Tim Krul also made two great saves in the first half. Arsenal can now cut the gap to four points tonight if they beat Tottenham and will have renewed belief that the title race is back on.
