Morton ease to victory

Morton leapfrogged Queen of the South into fourth place in the Scottish First Division with a convincing 4-1 victory at Palmerston Park.

The visitors had already enjoyed two chances before Peter Weatherson broke the deadlock with just three minutes on the clock, converting Allan Jenkins` cross into the net from six yards.

And it was 2-0 just before the half-hour mark as Jenkins got in on the act himself, drilling a sweet left-footed effort into the bottom corner from the left channel.

Brian Graham made it three in the 62nd minute with a header from David O`Brien`s corner.

Queen of the South did register a consolation nine minutes later as Steven Degnan fired home Daniel Carmichael`s cross from 12 yards.

But it was left for Morton to have to final word deep into injury time, Jenkins grabbing his second of the night from close range.
