Liam Buchanan netted the only goal as Dunfermline kept their two-point lead at the top of the First Division table with a 1-0 win at Cowdenbeath.

Buchanan's all-important strike came on the hour mark as he easily converted from close range.

Athletic dominated the first half, with Buchanan squandering two chances when he should have done better, while Jake Hyde forced Beath goalkeeper David Hay into a good save and Martin Hardie hit the post with a header from six yards after 44 minutes.

The home side's best first-half opportunity came when Craig Winter volleyed over from 12 yards after 11 minutes, while they might have equalised had Lewis Coult not shot over when well placed 17 minutes from time.
