Chievo 0 - 0 Parma - Chievo and Parma in stalemate

Chievo and Parma played out a goalless draw in Verona which temporarily eased the relegation concerns of both clubs.

Parma had Gabriel Paletta sent off for a second yellow card with 16 minutes remaining, but the away side held out to a claim a point.

Chievo, who have now failed to win in their past five games, are in 13th position, two places and three points clear of Parma.

The visitors controlled the opening stages and had the first chance in the 12th minute when Francesco Valiani's right-footed strike towards the near post was saved by goalkeeper Stefano Sorrentino.

Parma suffered a setback soon after with Valeri Bojinov replacing the injured Amauri in attack.

At the other end, Bojan Jokic fired a warning shot when he burst into the area and unleashed a drive which Parma goalkeeper Antonio Mirante dived to save.

Chievo's wave of attacks were finding no end product, but there was little threat at the other end to concern.

Two minutes before half-time, Jokic's 20-yard volley went over the bar.

Parma showed more determination after the restart and in the 48th minute, an unmarked Bojinov should have done better but fired a central effort straight to Sorrentino's hands.

Bojinov almost broke the deadlock on the hour mark. His right-footed strike from the edge of the area went inches wide of the far post.

Two minutes later and Bojinov was denied by Sorrentino. The Chievo goalkeeper fully stretched to clear the Bulgarian's diagonal strike from outside the area.

The hosts then had a chance to take the lead in the 72nd minute when Jokic's curled effort towards the far post was kept out by Mirante.

Parma were reduced to 10 men in the 74th minute when Paletta was given his second yellow card after a harsh foul on Sergio Pellissier.

With seven minutes remaining, Chievo came close to taking all points. Michele Marcolini's bullet strike from 30 yards was met by a fine save from Mirante in what was the last chance of the game.
