Airdrie United 1 - 2 Dumbarton: Dumbarton snare rare win
Posted Tuesday, February 01, 2011 by PA
Ryan McCord's late penalty was not enough for Airdrie as they lost 2-1 at home to rock-bottom Dumbarton.
The visitors opened the scoring after 21 minutes as Mark Gilhaney's right-footed strike beat Mark Ridgers from 18 yards and Jon McShane almost made it two but he fired over from close range.
Dumbarton extended their lead two minutes after the interval when Patrick Walker latched onto a McShane pass to fire past Ridgers from 20 yards.
The home side tried hard to find a way back into the game and were given a lifeline seven minutes from time as Euan Grant was brought down in the area by Stephen Grindley.
McCord slotted home the spot-kick but it was not enough as Airdrie lost their second successive league game.
