Chievo took a significant step towards Serie A safety thanks to a 3-0 win at struggling Brescia.

Sergio Pellissier put the Flying Donkeys in front on the stroke of half-time and Davide Mandelli added a second just two minutes into the second half.

Pellissier struck again in stoppage time to seal all three points for Stefano Pioli's side and to put some daylight between themselves and the bottom three.

The future is not looking quite so bright for Brescia now, though, as they remain inside the bottom three with just five wins from 22 games.

Brescia took a bold approach to the game with Andrea Caracciolo, Eder and Alessandro Diamanti all lining up in an attack-minded selection.

Their attacking impulsion lasted very little, though, with Chievo soon mastering the situation and creating the first chance of the game for Cyril Thereau, who headed over the crossbar in the 27th minute.

Diamanti had the home side's first shot of the game six minutes later, but his effort cleared the crossbar from outside the area.

The game seemed to be heading for a stalemate after 45 minutes until Pellissier struck as the game entered stoppage time.

Gelson Fernandes lifted the ball into the centre with a perfectly-weighted pass on the volley and Chievo's top goalscorer made no mistake to notch up his ninth goal of the season with a header from point-blank range.

Brescia's hopes of turning the game around were dealt a blow early in the second half when Mandelli headed in the second.

The Chievo defender was left unmarked at the far post and Michele Arcari was unable to keep the ball out, despite getting a hand to it.

Kevin Constant almost added a third within 60 seconds as he sent the ball wide from Pellissier's pass, and then Pellissier himself had the chance to seal the win in the 65th minute, but Arcari denied him in a one-on-one situation.

He did put the finishing touch to the win in stoppage time, though, with a venomous shot past Arcari from 20 yards.

A miss from Davide Lanzafame from just three yards out shortly afterwards typified Brescia's misfortune on a day for them to forget at the Stadio Rigamonti.
