Brechin kept up their promotion charge with a 2-1 win at bottom of the table Dumbarton.

The visitors took a deserved lead after 22 minutes when Neil Janczyk swung over a corner and Dougie Hill was on hand to slot home from close range.

Brechin striker David McKenna forced a good save from Stephen Grindley after 28 minutes as the visitors continued to dominate the first half.

Brechin were presented with a glorious chance to double their lead from the penalty spot after 58 minutes when Martin McNiff fouled Craig Molloy and was shown a straight red card.

But leading scorer Rory McAllister saw his spot-kick saved by Grindley to give the home side hope.

But Brechin doubled their lead with a well worked goal from midfielder Molloy, who latched on to McKenna`s through ball and finished well from 20 yards out.

Dumbarton grabbed a late goal from Mark Gilhaney, who beat keeper Craig Nelson with a powerful drive into the centre of the net from six yards out but the damage had already been done.
