Morton vs Ross County preview - Lyle back for Morton
Posted Saturday, January 29, 2011 by PA
Morton welcome back striker Derek Lyle to their squad for the visit of Ross County.
The former Hamilton man missed out against Airdrie in the Scottish Cup in midweek as he had not been signed in time to feature.
Defender Marc Smyth returns from suspension however the game has come too soon for the injured pair of Darren Young and Sean Fitzharris.
Greenock boss Allan Moore is looking for his team to climb the table.
He said: "If we win we could go to fifth but more importantly, create a six point gap between ourselves and Ross County.
"We have a wee sense of injustice following the 2-2 draw at their place when they scored deep into an extended injury time period and we will use that to try and win this game."
Ross County are without four players.
Defender Gary Miller is banned and trio Darren McCormack, Paul Lawson and Michael Gardyne are all out injured.
Summer signing Darren Smith, who has been out for three months with a thumb problem, is included in manager Willie McStay's squad after having his cast removed.
McStay is targeting his first win as County boss: "Morton are very tricky opponents, however this should be a great game as there always is a cup-tie atmosphere at Cappielow.
"The last time we played each other it was a very open game and if we convert the chances we have been making we stand a great chance of winning."
