Bulgaria 0-1 Serbia: Match-Winner Nikola Zigic Sees Red In Stoppage Time

A late goal from substitute Nikola Zigic gave Vladimir Petrovic's side a morale-boosting 1-0 win over Bulgaria.

The sole bright moment in an extremely lacklustre encounter arrived twelve minutes from the end when  Zigic raced on to a through ball and kept his cool to slide his shot underneath FC Twente goalkeeper Nikolay Mihaylov.

It was the 20th international goal for the Birmingham City striker and was something to cheer for the small number of Serbian fans who made the short journey to a wet and windy Sofia.

Just as the game looked to be petering out to a dull climax, Zigic then received his marching orders after a second yellow for shirt pulling, giving his coach a headache as he will almost certainly be suspended for Serbia's next qualifier.

New Bulgarian coach Lothar Matthaeus' side were below par, with the crowd understandably jeering the squad after the final whistle. The World Cup winner and former Hungary boss has a sizeable job on his hands on the basis of this showing.
