Becks licking his wounds after MLS final defeat

David Beckham’s American season ended on a stormy note as his Los Angeles Galaxy side were hammered in the Western Conference final.

A shock 3-0 home defeat by FC Dallas sent the Galaxy into orbit and the Texans into the final against Colorado.

Frustrated Beckham was left licking his wounds after the demolition, with only a booking for dissent to show for his troubles.

But his furious protests at the Dallas third goal - which he claimed was offside - were as futile as the Galaxy’s chances by that stage.

Beckham had threatened with a trademark free-kick before David Ferreira fired the visitors ahead.

George John added a second and Honduras World Cup player Marvin Chavez made it 3-0 17 minutes from time.

Beckham suffered a groin strain early on, but completed all 90 minutes for the fourth time in five games,

“We saw at the beginning of the game, probably 15 minutes in, that he had a problem,” said LA coach Bruce Arena.

“We talked to him at half-time. There was a chance that we were going to take him off but he stayed in there.”

Beckham missed six months after tearing his left Achilles tendon in March while on loan at Milan, wrecking his World Cup dream.

“He has been playing through a lot of pain in the last few weeks, more than you know,” said striker Landon Donovan.

“When you come back that quickly at that age from an Achilles injury, there are going to be side-effects.”
