LONDON (SE) - Didier Drogba kept up his incredible scoring record against Arsenal as Chelsea handed their London title rivals a devastating 2-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge.
The Ivory Coast striker netted with a neat flick six minutes before the break for his 13th goal in 13 games against the Gunners and has still to finish on the losing side against Arsene Wenger’s men.
Brazil defender Alex added a second late on with a blistering 25-yard free-kick before limping off with an injury in stoppage time.
Wenger must be kicking himself. Even without a host of first-team regulars including captain Cesc Fabregas, goalkeeper Manuel Almunia and Holland striker Robin van Persie, his side dominated for long periods.
But not for the first time they failed to turn their superiority into goals and fell to the Blues for the fourth successive time in the league and fifth overall. Seven points behind Chelsea after just seven games is an unacceptable position for the north London club who had designs on the Premier League trophy at the start of the season.
