Carcary makes difference for Dumbarton

Posted Saturday, September 11, 2010 by PA

Derek Carcary's late goal secured all three points for Dumbarton as they beat Stenhousemuir 1-0.

Chances were few and far between in a tight game and Stirling Smith's free-kick for Dumbarton, which flew over the bar and into the stands was the only real chance of note in the first half.

And there was little between the two sides until substitute Carcary broke the deadlock after 77 minutes when he fired home from 12 yards and could have made it two when his shot from the edge of the area fired off the post to safety.

Tempers frayed in the second half with the referee dishing out eight yellow cards and deep into added time he sent Paul Nugent off for violent conduct which overshadowed Dumbarton's first win of the campaign.

Stenhousemuir offered very little in front of goal and deserved to go away pointless.
