BREMEN, Germany (AP)—Werder Bremen’s manager says his club has rejected an offer from Real Madrid for Germany World Cup star Mesut Oezil.
Manager Klaus Allofs said late Friday the Spanish team had made an offer for Oezil but called it “no basis for discussion.”
Allofs did not name a sum, but media speculation has placed Oezil’s worth at least ?15 million ($19.2 million).
Oezil’s future has become the focus of intense speculation and Bremen recently denied speculation he was headed to Barcelona.
Madrid coach Jose Mourinho told Germany’s ZDF television Friday that “I would be happy to have him join” insisting that despite the rejection, “we’ll see how it goes. Oezil would certainly help us.”
Mourinho has said he would like to Oezil to replace the injured Kaka.
