Weir and Lennon court points for different reasons

Arbroath boss Jim Weir has several injury problems ahead of the visit of title-chasing Cowdenbeath as his side look for the points needed to drag themselves out of the dreaded play-off spot at the wrong end of the table.

Defender Gerry McLaughlin and strikers Bryan Scott and Steve Hislop have been ruled out while Alan Rattray, Jamie Redman, Steven Doris and Mitchel Megginson all face Saturday morning fitness tests.

Weir is also keeping his fingers crossed that on-loan Hibs defender Callum Booth returns home in time from Scotland Under-19 duty in Luxembourg despite air travel chaos across Europe.

Weir said: "It is not the ideal position for our squad to be in for a game of this importance, but there is not much we can do about things.

"We will get on with it and scrap for everything as we have been doing recently."

Cowdenbeath will be missing defensive pair Scott Linton and Dene Droudge for what manager Danny Lennon believes will be a "really tough game" against the Second Division strugglers.

The Blue Brazil dropped to third in midweek having been overtaken by Stirling Albion and Lennon is determined to see his side get back to winning ways after losing to Peterhead last weekend.

He said: "This will be a really tough game as both sides are fighting for something at their respective ends of the table.

"I watched Arbroath at Stirling on Monday night and was very impressed as they fought for everything.

"Jim Weir obviously has them fired up and Steven Doris, who scored both of their goals, will really be worth watching closely."
