Baird gives United hope

A double from John Baird inspired Airdrie to a 3-0 win over Raith and kept their slim survival hopes alive.
The hosts made the perfect start when they took the lead inside the opening five minutes. Scott McLaughlin whipped in a corner which Diarmuid O'Carroll flicked on and Baird was on hand to turn the ball home.
Alan Trouten and McLaughlin had opportunities to double Airdrie's lead, while Graham Weir shot wide for Raith in a tight first half.
Paul Lovering missed a golden chance to extend United's lead after the break when he fired over from close range but he was not made to pay as Baird's second in the 65th minute gave Airdrie some breathing space, slamming home a loose ball.
Stephen Simmons should have got Raith back in it soon after but he blazed over and Richard Waddell put the game to bed with a low finish four minutes from time.
