McLaren stuns Airdrie

William McLaren netted a late winner for Queen of the South as Airdrie's hopes of avoiding relegation suffered a blow in a 1-0 home reverse.
Airdrie, who had won three of their last four games, seemed set to pick up another point in their bid to catch ninth-placed Ayr until McLaren slotted home from 12 yards for his third goal in five matches.
It was the first goal the basement-boys had conceded at home in 358 minutes and ended their five-game unbeaten run at the Excelsior Stadium.
The visitors had created the better chances with McLaren, Jordan McMillan, Rocco Quinn and Joseph Hamill going close.
But even after McLaren had scored, Airdrie could have equalised with Alan Trouten weakly shooting wide from six yards before Scott McLaughlin's effort was saved by David Hutton.
