Cowdenbeath kept the pressure on league leaders Alloa with a hard-fought 1-0 win at home to Stenhousemuir.
The winning goal came after 71 minutes through Gareth Wardlaw, who got on the end of a Jon Robertson cross from the right wing to head home from six yards out.
The defeat was Stenhousemuir's fourth in a row an they will be nervously looking over the shoulders as they hope to avoid the end-of-season relegation play-offs.
The away side's best effort came from top goalscorer Kevin Motion but his shot failed to trouble David Hay in the Cowdenbeath goal.
Wardlaw should have put the game beyond doubt with seven minutes remaining but his 20-yard effort crept agonisingly past the right hand post.
And Joseph Mbu also had a good chance to double the home side's advantage but put his header wide from six yards following a Scott McBride corner.
