Arbroath ended Brechin's seven games unbeaten run with a surprise 2-0 win.
The hosts, who also lost for the first time at Glebe Park this season, fell behind in the first minute when Steven Doris' cross found Steven Hislop and his shot from just outside the area thundered into the top corner of the net.
Charlie King nearly equalised with a 30-yard free-kick, however Darren Hill produced a fantastic save in the 10th minute.
The Red Lichties doubled their advantage in the 31st minute when another Doris cross found Robert Ross and his low shot beat Craig Nelson.
Brechin tried valiantly to get themselves back into the match in the second half and Hill had to be at his best to save Rory McAllister's close range effort.
The Hedgemen striker headed over from six yards and Mark Cowan forced another fine save from Hill as the visitors held on for the win.
