Japan women down China in East Asian Champs

TOKYO (AP)—Aya Miyama and Yukari Kinga scored in each half Saturday to lead Japan’s women’s football team to a 2-0 win over China in the opening game of the East Asian Championship.

Miyama opened the scoring with a free kick in the 21st minute and Kinga doubled the lead midway through the second half when she chipped in a loose ball past China’s goalkeeper.

Japan, South Korea, China and Taiwan are taking part in the women’s tournament. The men’s tournament starts later Saturday when Japan faces China.
