In their last seven matches, Usuthu have been undefeated on five occasions, leaving the coach wondering whether his men would become complacent in the closing five matches.
"My biggest challenge at this point in the season is to rid the squad of complacency. I reminded the players that they have to be honest to themselves and the team and continue to perform," said Tovey, according to Kickoff.com.
"There was never a doubt in my mind about the ability of this team, even when we were going through a bad patch we were still playing spectacular football. I think we were only outplayed on two occasions this season."
Looking ahead to Sunday's home assignment against relegation contenders Mpumalanga Black Aces at the Moses Mabhida Stadium, Tovey reckons that this encounter will be no walk in the park for his team.
"Playing a team like Aces is extremely difficult because they are fighting for survival. They are desperate for the points, so it will be up to our guys to respond to the challenge.
"With the team firing again, it leaves me with a bit of a selection dilemma. I have to decide between keeping the same side that won the game for us against Golden Arrows (2-1) or to bring in fresh legs. We've just come back from a break so I guess there can't be any weary legs."
