  • Intro:

Venus Williams progresses to the Miami Open quarter-finals as she beats Caroline Wozniacki 6-3, 7-6 (1) on Monday (30 March).

    Script:

Venus Williams is enjoying somewhat of a resurgence in the on the WTA tour. However, this fourth match with Caroline Wozniacki would surely test the 34-year-old.

5-3 to Venus didn't tell the full story, as there were FIVE consecutive break of serves to start before Venus held in the sixth game and when the Dane went long at 5-3 down that gave the American the set.

The World No 5 upped her game in the second set as she looked for her first ever win in the over Venus in seven attempts.

The American had only dropped one set in their previous six encounters, yet that would be tested as the second set entered a tiebreak.

Williams dominated the tie break from the back of the court - commanding play with her deep ground strokes.

At 6-1 she had five match points yet she only needed one of them.

Her unbeaten run continuing against Wozniacki and a first Miami quarter-final since 2012.

That will be against Carla Suarez-Navarro.
