The United States held on for 1-1 draw with Switzerland in an international friendly on Tuesday after veteran forward Jozy Altidore was sent off.

Switzerland took on the United States in a friendly in Zurich.

Ans the USA took a deserved lead on the stroke of half time, Brek Shea's curling free-kick gave the Americans a deserved goal, and another lead to take into a second period.

But the trend of coach Jurgen Klinsmann's team to concede late goals continued.

Former Sunderland striker Jozy Altidore was shown two yellow cards in the 68th minute, the first for a foul and then verbal abuse followed, aimed at Italian referee Luca Banti; he gave Altidore his marching orders.

That gave the Swiss the chance of an equaliser and their pressure paid off in the 80th when substitute Valentin Stocker scored from just two yards out, poking past debutant goalkeeper William Yarbrough.

That's how it finished 1-1 the final score.
