Serena Williams progresses to the Miami Open quarter-finals as she beats Svetlana Kuznetsova in straight sets on Monday (30th March).

While Andrea Petkovic of Germany claims 6-1, 7-5 win over Russia's Ekaterina Makarova in fourth round of WTA Miami Open in Florida on Monday (March 30).

While one Williams was already through to the quarter-final, the younger version was in action later on fourth round day.

Serena was up against two-time Grand Slam champion - Svetlana Kuznetsova.

The Russian hadn't beaten Serena for six years and that didn't look like changing early.

Serena took the first set 6-2 and looked to be in control as she found another early break in the second to lead 3-1. However Kuznetsova has history with this tournament having won in Miami back in 2006 and she too found some power from the baseline.

The Russian did get one break of serve back, yet the World No 1 simply had too much from the back of the court & she advanced through to keep on course to add to her record seven victories of the Miami tournament.

Elsewhere, the No 8 seed Andrea Petkovic faced 9th seed Ekaterina Makarova.

The German raced into an early at 4-1 and at love- 30 up on the Russians serve she consolidated her dominance, taking the first set 6-1.

The only other time the pair had met was back in 2010 - that one going the distance - however here in Miami, Petkovic was too strong for the Russian, winning 6-1, 7-5.

She'll now face Karolina Pliskova in the quarter-finals.
