Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka defeated Richard Gasquet and Julien Benneteau in straight sets to hand Switzerland a 2-1 lead over France in the Davis Cup final on Saturday 22 November.

    Script:

Roger Federer and Stan Wawrinka put their much-publicised differences firmly behind them to put Switzerland within touching distance of its first-ever Davis Cup trophy.

There were no signs of Federer's lingering back injury - as he and and Wawrinka needed just a single break of serve to take the first set by six games to three - in just 28 minutes.

Benneteau and Gasquet had numerous chances to break in the second set but the Swiss dominated the key points - Federer delivering the killer blow with a perfectly placed backhand down the line on break point in the 11th game.

Wawrinka made no mistake in the next game, serving out to love to hand Switzerland a two-sets-to-love lead.

There was no way back for the French pair as Switzerland continued to pile on the pressure in the third - Federer showed no sign of nerves to hold his own serve to love and give Switzerland an emphatic 6-3, 7-5, 6-4 victory.

Switzerland now lead the tie 2-1, and Federer has a chance to clinch the one major honour that has eluded him in Sunday's opening singles rubber, when he will face Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.
