  • Intro:

Queens Park Rangers unveil new signing Rio Ferdinand. The ex-England centre-back, 35, joins on a free transfer after leaving Manchester United. Also Hoops manager Harry Redknapp discusses the collapse of QPR striker Loïc Rémy's move to Liverpool, allegedly due to a failed medical.

SOUNDBITE (English) Rio Ferdinand, QPR defender:

"Various offers from different places in the world. My agent spoke to them and went and met loads of different managers and various people, but when Harry [Redknapp] made the call, it was easy for me. I started under him as a young player at West Ham and to finish my career playing underneath him again is a fairytale finish. It's a different proposition now [from playing for Manchester United] from what I've been used to but it's a great challenge that I'm looking forward to."

SOUNDBITE (English) Harry Redknapp, QPR manager (on striker Loïc Rémy after his move to Liverpool fell through):

"I don't really see how he's failed a medical because he had a stringent medical here. He had one at Marseille, one at Newcastle. He had one with the French team before the World Cup. He's never had a problem with his fitness. You couldn't meet a fitter lad. I've seen that story break but I don't know where that can be. I don't see that there could be any issue with his fitness, none whatsoever. Listen, their loss is our gain in lots of ways -- my gain. I've got a fantastic striker."
