  • Intro:

Preparations are complete as Glasgow is set for the opening ceremony of the 20th Commonwealth Games at the Celtic Park on Wednesday (23 July).

    Script:

SOUNDBITE: (English) David Greenberg, Chief Executive, Glasgow Commonwealth Games:
    (On the Games).

"And tonight, it is curtain up on the opening ceremony from Celtic Park, where the people of Glasgow, people of Scotland, will welcome the Commonwealth and the world to one of the friendliest cities on the planet. We promise these Games will be athlete centered, sports focused..and athletes and sports have always been part or at the heart of Glasgow 2014's ambition."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Mike Hooper, Chief Executive, Commonwealth Games Federation:
(On the difference between Glasgow and Delhi Games).

"In looking back to the challenges that confronted us in the lead up to Delhi, the answer is really simple - chalk and cheese. There is no comparison. There were lots of challenges, but let me be very clear. The people of India, the government of India, the people of Delhi, ultimately delivered for the athletes of the Commonwealth."

SOUNDBITE: (English) HRH Prince Imran, President, Commonwealth Games Federation:
(On his experience in the lead up to Glasgow games).

"And I think this is really the best in terms of the preparation and I personally am very happy because this is my first term as the president and I don't have the headaches maybe Mike Fennel (previous president) had previously."
