Faced with career defining moments, top athletes often produce profound, inspirational words -

    SOUNDBITE: (English) voxpop female participant:

    "It's a bit mucky"

Every Easter Monday for more than half a Century the World Coal Carrying Championships have taken place in the heart of Yorkshire's mining country.

The participants have to carry a 50 kilo sack of coal and run between two pubs in the local area. The one-mile race has separate heats for men, women and children.

The children's race follows the same principal as the adults, but they run just 100 yards to the Village Green.

And event Champion Chris Birkin reflected on his achievement.

SOUNDBITE: (English) 2014 World Coal Carrying Champion Chris Birkin"It's a big achievement, isn't it? It's a really hard race, hardest thing I've ever done in my life and it's just nice to win it. Back in the record books."

Birkin completed the course in four minutes and 46 seconds.
