Twelfth seed Gregor Dimitov reached the second round of the Monte Carlo Masters on Tuesday.

The 22-year-old from Bulgaria survived a second set scare to beat Marcel Granollers of Spain 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.

Meanwhile, second seed and defending champion Novak Djokovic opened his account with a second round match with another Spaniard Albert Montanes.

The Serbian made light work of his opponent, breaking serve in the fourth game of the first set with a blistering backhand to take a 3-1 set lead.

He didn't look back from there, reeling off a further nine games to capture an emphatic 6-1 6-0 win after just 45 minutes on court.

Sixth seed David Ferrer will join him in the third round.

He dispatched Frenchman Jeremy Chardy with similar ease, cruising to a 6-3, 6-0 win - his third victory over Chardy this season.
