The LPGA set off on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail on Thursday for the opening round of the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic.

Inbee Park, the top-ranked woman in the world, did not enter the tournament but No. 2 Stacy Lewis opened with a 70. Lewis made six birdies over her round but also had two bogeys and a double to close at two under par.

Lexi Thompson, who finished second at this tournament last year behind Lewis, had eight birdies and a bogey. The 18 year old birdied four of her last five holes. She won the 2011 Navistar LPGA Classic in Alabama for her lone LPGA Tour title.

Eun-Hee Ji, the 2009 U.S. Women's Open champion, birdied five of her final six holes to tie Thompson atop the leader board with a seven-under 65. Ji did not record a single bogey on her day.

Jessica Korda also had a clean card and was a stroke back at 66.

And Jennifer Johnson had the shot of the day on the par-four ninth, her final hole of the day. Johnson's iron from the fairway had the wind behind it and it carried down to the green, where it rolled right in for an eagle.
