CESAR AZPILICUETA angrily confronted a Chelsea fan in the stands after his side's disastrous 4-2 defeat to Arsenal.

The club captain appeared to take exception to something the fan shouted after the referee blew for full-time.

Azpilicueta put his arms out in apparent confusion as the fan gestured towards him from the stand, seeming to imply Chelsea needed to show more fight.

Azpilicueta reacted by at first pointing at the fan and gesturing towards him.

The furious defender then stormed over to the stand to settle the dispute, appearing to criticise the fan for clapping sarcastically.

The supporter initially appeared to argue his case before backing down by holding his hands up to the Spaniard to apologise and then giving him a thumbs up.

Other Chelsea fans in the area seemed to be offering support to Azpilicueta - telling him to ignore the angry supporter.

Azpilicueta had every right to be bemused by fans' criticism after Chelsea reached the FA Cup final on Sunday.

Thomas Tuchel also looks set to lead his side a top four place despite the shock setback against Arsenal.

But the Chelsea boss actually sympathised with the irrate fan, saying: "I was not part of it. I saw it but honestly I can also understand the fan."

Azpilicueta even scored against the Gunners, showing a striker's instinct by getting across Nuno Tavares to poke in an equaliser and make the score 2-2.

But it was not enough to prevent defeat as Arsenal scored two second-half goals to earn back-to-back Premier League wins at Stamford Bridge.
