Arsenal star Lucas Torreira yanks out tooth during Serie A match and continues playing

Lucas Torreira aggressive bite in midfield saw him garner an impressive reputation during his early seasons at Arsenal.

The Uruguayan defensive midfielder has enjoyed a very impressive loan spell at Serie A giants Fiorentina this season. While small in stature, Torreira more than makes up for his small frame with his tenacious pressing and tough tackling capabilities.

The Italian giants are expected to make a move for the 26-year-old ace at the end of the season. However, they would likely be purchasing a player with somewhat less bite, after he yanked out his own tooth during Fiorentina’s Serie A clash against Inter Milan.

Torreira enjoyed a memorable performance against the reigning Serie A champions, hammering La Viola into a surprise lead at the San Siro. But soon after scoring, the midfield ace realised one of his tooth had become loose after a firm coming together.

While many would have likely looked to depart the contest after such a severe clash, Torreira’s appetite for competition negated any pain from his tooth. To remain on the pitch and prevent his manager Vincenzo Italiano from wasting a substitution, Torreira simply yanked his own tooth out on the pitch.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Torreira was called in for an anti-doping drugs test shortly after the end of the contest. Unfortunately for the eccentric midfielder, Fiorentina were not able to hold onto their lead for long.

Denze Dumfries ghosted into the back post to steer home a close-range header into the back of the net to keep Inter within arm’s reach of first placed AC Milan. But the highlight and hero of the evening was the on loan Arsenal midfielder.

Such dedication and self-sacrifice will likely capture the attention of his parent club as well as that of Mikel Arteta. If the Arsenal boss decides to add extra aggression and toughness to his midfield, then he may need not look further than Torreira.
