Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo says he intends to keep playing for another four or five seasons, meaning he'll be 42-years-old by the time he retires

Cristiano Ronaldo says he plans to keep playing football for another five years before calling it a day - taking him well into his 40s.

The Manchester United superstar, who turned 37 earlier this month, claims to have plenty of fire left in the belly and says he has no intention of slowing down yet.

When asked about his future in a recent interview with Danz, Ronaldo said: "It’s hard to say that I don’t want more, because if I’m at a club that gives me the opportunity to win more things, why not?

"I know I don’t have many years left playing, four or five more, we’ll see, and I want to win more things."

The Portugal international has been taking a lot of flak in recent weeks, particularly given United's stuttering form.

He went six games without a goal for the first time in over a decade and has been accused by fans of refusing to work hard for the team on several occasions.

Despite the criticism, he's managed to bag 15 goals in 29 matches so far this season - something Ronaldo claims proves he's in good form.

"That’s why I’m very happy with my form, I’m still scoring goals, helping both in the national team and at Manchester United and that’s why I want to continue like this," he said.

Ronaldo would become the Premier League's oldest ever player if he keeps playing in the division for another four seasons, and playing another five could potentially see him feature in three more international tournaments.

The one blot on an otherwise spotless career is that he hasn't won the World Cup - a feat which cemented the likes of Pele and Diego Maradona as the greatest players to have ever played the game - and would you put it past him to simply keep playing until he wins it?

We certainly wouldn't.
