Real Madrid saw offers of £137m and £154m for Kylian Mbappe rejected over the summer, but the Frenchman is forcing the La Liga outfit to wait until the end of the season to secure his signature

Kylian Mbappe has decided to postpone his talks to join Real Madrid until next summer in a bid to show respect to his current club, Paris Saint-Germain.

The 23-year-old’s contract at the Parc des Princes expires at the end of the season and the former Monaco star appears to have no intention of remaining in the France capital.

Madrid sent PSG two mammoth offers of £137m and £154m ahead of this season but both offers were rejected despite the player making his intentions very clear come the summer of 2022.

Mbappe has made it no secret that he wants to sign for Madrid and is able to put pen to paper on a pre-contract agreement in the January transfer window but has chosen not to.

According to Duncan Castles of The Transfer Window Podcast, Mbappe has decided to wait until next summer to sort the transfer to the Santiago Bernabeu because Madrid have been drawn against his PSG in the Champions League.

Castles said: “In those talks, the conclusion was reached that they would not finish a deal and not attempt to finish a deal in the January window, even though he is formally and legally allowed to speak to Real Madrid and sign a pre-contract if he wanted to.

"The primary reason is Real Madrid were drawn with Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. Mbappe wants to respect the club and he doesn't want any problems in his last six months at PSG.

"Real Madrid also feel it would not be a good idea to try and force the deal to closure at this point, given that they have to play Paris Saint-Germain, given the complications that would have entering into the match.”

Considering Mbappe is one of the best players in world football and still so young, it will not just be Madrid who are keen to add the 2018 World Cup winner to their ranks this summer. However, the La Liga club are thought to be confident that there is no risk that the deal will be hijacked by another European giant.

Castles continued: “They [Madrid] are confident they have this deal in place when it's safer to conclude.

"And therefore you have a situation where Mbappe and Real Madrid have agreed 'we leave it until the summer, we want this to happen, the intention is there on bad sides, but the timing is bad on a sporting perspective’.”

It remains to be seen how successful Mbappe will be in Spain, or even if the forward even ends up playing with the likes of international teammates Karim Benzema and Edouard Camavinga next season.
