Eden Hazard is set to be pursued by Newcastle United as their new owners look to add superstar quality to their struggling side, according to reports.

The Magpies were taken over by the Saudi Public Investment Fund earlier this month which saw the club instantly become the wealthiest in England.

And the Newcastle hierarchy appear to be wasting no time in trying to get the club to the top, having sacked manager Steve Bruce last week as they look to bring in a world-class replacement.

Reports suggest the club could now challenge Chelsea for the signing of ex-Blue Hazard, 30, from Real Madrid in the coming transfer window.

ESPN journalist James Olley claimed the Magpies could launch a bid as early as this January if Madrid are open to parting ways with the attacker.

Olley said: "Chelsea and Newcastle are among a number of clubs interested in signing Eden Hazard in January."

Champions League winners Chelsea have been the favourites to secure the Belgian's signature due to his outstanding accomplishments at the club prior to his Madrid move.

It was reported earlier this month that Roman Abramovich was keen to bring the player back to west London despite his struggles in recent years.

Hazard's Madrid career has undoubtedly been a disappointment due to a lack of form and fitness for the winger.

He has struggled to get into side since Zinedine Zidane's exit last summer while youngsters Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo start ahead of him.

Meanwhile, Newcastle's owners are in search of quality players as they desperately look to avoid the embarrassment of relegation in their first season in charge.

They are currently 19th in the Premier League and have not won a league game, though they hope that potential incoming targets like Hazard can stabilise the situation.
