Newcastle want five signings after takeover as Saudis consider January deals 'urgent'

Newcastle United fans have been catapulted into dreamland after their newfound takeover on Thursday evening - with reports that their new owners are looking to sign five new players in January to boost the Magpies' season and potentially begin a new trophy-laden era at the club.

Newcastle have yet to experience a Premier League title win and have been caught up at the wrong end of the table for far too long given how well supported they are.

It seemed their nightmare spell under Mike Ashley would never end with the Sports Direct owner constantly clouded with controversy in his control of the north east outfit.

But after news of a takeover by a Saudi consortium, fans have been waxing lyrical about signings they may make in the coming months.

Steve Bruce's men currently sit 19th in the table and are in need of some players if they are to worm their way out of the relegation spots.

And a report by the Telegraph claims that Newcastle want five signings in January in order to retain their Premier League status after a poor start to the campaign.

The Geordies' new owners are apparently looking to sign at least one full-back, a centre-back, a central midfield player, a winger and a centre forward, the report states.

But there is no limit at this stage on the number of signings they can make in the winter window.

James Tarkowski and Jesse Lingard have been linked as Newcastle's transfer model is likely to focus on players with Premier League experience who can slot easily into the first team.

And with Tarkowski's contract expiring in the summer, alongside Lingard's refusal to sign a new deal with reassurances on game-time at Old Trafford, the pair could be very much attainable.

Bruce has been linked with the exit door at St James' Park, with the owners reportedly looking for someone else to lead the way in the newfound journey Newcastle find themselves on.

And he stated he will accept his fate should the owners look to sign someone else.

"I want to continue," Bruce said to the Daily Telegraph.

"I'd like the chance to show the new owners what I can do, but you have to be realistic and they may well want a new manager to launch things for them.

"New owners normally want a new manager. I've been around long enough to understand that.

"That decision is not up to me. I accept that and I will accept what comes my way. I have to wait to have those conversations with people when the time is right.

"If I don't make it to a 1,000 games against Spurs, you might say that could only happen to me, but I don't think it would be cruel. It's just football."
