Liverpool eye €35m move for Real Madrid's Marcos Asensio
Reports stemming from Spain have credited Liverpool with an interest in Real Madrid's Marcos Asensio.

Asensio's Real Madrid stint

Marcos Asensio would join Real Madrid in 2015, departing fellow Spanish side RCD Mallorca for a fee reported to be around £3.51m.

Then, after a loan spell with Espanyol for the 2015/16 campaign, Asensio has spent the remainder of his career on the books of Los Blancos.

Asensio has so far notched 37 goals and 22 assists for Madrid across 196 outings in all competitions.

However, Asensio's form has dipped off a fair bit over the last few years.

The 25-year-old would score five and assist just two in 35 La Liga ties during 2020/21.

And, with Carlo Ancelotti now at the helm, it appears that Asensio is no longer seen as a key figure at the Bernabeu.

The midfielder is yet to start a single league game for Madrid this term, instead being forced to settle for just 57 minutes of action across three sub appearances.

Asensio linked with Liverpool

During the summer window, meanwhile, both Leeds United and Arsenal were linked with Asensio.

No move would in the end be forthcoming before the deadline on August 31st.

However, Asensio is once again being linked with a Premier League switch this week.

As per todofichajes, Liverpool are interested in signing the Spaniard and are preparing a €35m move:

Liverpool prepares € 35M to buy Marco Asensio's pass . The Mallorcan still does not have a leading role in Ancelotti's plans and he has been looking for a way out to relaunch his career for a long time.

The report also mentions Arsenal's interest, but claims that Liverpool are now 'in the lead' for Asensio.
