The squad number assigned to new Chelsea signing Saul Niguez has, on Thursday evening, been unveiled by the Premier League giants.

Blues make moves

A busy summer of business on the west of London was of course brought to a conclusion earlier this week.

Already boasting a Champions League-winning squad, the majority of the work carried out by those in a position of power at Stamford Bridge came in the form of outgoings.

The likes of Tammy Abraham, Fikayo Tomori, Kurt Zouma and Victor Moses were moved on on a permanent basis, whilst a host of others departed for respective loan spells away from the club.

On the incomings front, meanwhile, the return of Romelu Lukaku of course took the majority of the headlines.

The Belgian, fresh off the back of a scintillating campaign in Italy with Inter Milan, opted to link back up with the Pensioners, in a deal worth just shy of £100 million.

Saul's number revealed

Then, just when it appeared as though Marina Granovskaia and co. had called time on their pursuit of reinforcements, another high-profile arrival was forthcoming on transfer deadline day this week.

The latest player through the door at Stamford Bridge? Saul Niguez.

In a potential steal on the part of Thomas Tuchel's men, Spanish international Saul has taken his talents to the English capital on loan, with the option to buy for around £30 million next summer.

The on-loan Atletico Madrid man, in turn, has since gone on to link up with a select number of his new teammates, having not been called up for international duty with Spain.

And, amid his first full day at the Chelsea base, a further insight into the place which Saul is set to take up in Thomas Tuchel's squad has this evening been provided.

This comes in the form of the 26-year-old's jersey number.

As revealed in a post across the Blues' social media platforms, Saul will don the 17 shirt for the season to come, after Mateo Kovacic recently vacated the number to instead take his place as the club's new no.8.

Others to have worn the 17 for Chelsea over recent years include Eden Hazard and Pedro Rodriguez.
