Tottenham boss Nuno Espirito Santo has broken his silence on Harry Kane's attempts to force through a transfer to Manchester City.

The wantaway striker has gone awol this week, extending his family holiday in the Bahamas and Florida and missing three days of pre-season training.

Kane was due back at Hotspur Way on Monday morning for Covid-19 checks and general testing but did not turn up, instead choosing to remain abroad.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy does not want to sell the striker to another Premier League club, but Kane believes he has a gentleman's agreement to leave this summer.

Unsurprisingly, Kane was not in Espirito Santo's squad for Tottenham's 2-2 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, and the Portuguese refused to be drawn on the matter after the match.

"I'm sorry but I'm not gonna talk about Harry Kane now. Let's discuss about the game, did you watch it?" he said.

"It's not that I don't want to comment.

"I think all this issue surrounding Harry we should discuss internally to avoid any kind of public argument and discussion. We have to solve the problem but first between us."

However, there's no indication that either Kane or Levy are willing to budge as the row over the England captain's future threatens to turn ugly.

Kane's decision to extend his holiday is further indication that is he prepared to dig his heels in and make life uncomfortable for Spurs.

As a result of his extended break, he won't be able to return to pre-season training until Sunday at the earliest - making him a massive doubt for the club's opening match of the season against Manchester City.
